The Japanese Yen was introduced in 1871 under the New Currency Act, replacing a complex system of feudal currencies. It was originally pegged to silver, then later to the US Dollar under the Bretton Woods system. In 1973, Japan adopted a floating exchange rate, allowing the Yen’s value to fluctuate based on market forces.

Over the years, the Yen has undergone several redesigns to improve security and prevent counterfeiting. Japan was also among the first countries to introduce high-tech anti-counterfeit features in its banknotes. Today, the Yen remains a strong symbol of Japan’s economic power and stability.
